So my mom got me this book called Seven Reasons Why God Created Marriage. I'm not going to go into the whole book.... there are probably copyright laws etc. and you should just read the thing for yourself. But!During today's reading, I found the most interesting word picture for how Tommy and I are to submit to each other.
First, it starts with a paragraph in Scripture that so many people misuse and misunderstand- Ephesians 5! The author, James Ford, uses verse 33, which says "..let every one of you in particular love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband." This 'reverence' is taken from a word which means 'to bow down to'- dum dum dummmmm! Oh, but keep reading!
THEN! He quotes 1 Peter 3:7, "Likewise, husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor to your wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers will not be hindered." This 'honor' here means 'to put on a pedestal.'
SOOO if the wife and husband are facing each other, the wife is bowing, and the husband if putting her up on a pedestal, then they are seeing eye to eye- are on the same level- are both being encouraged and loved and respected! Sweet.
